"To construct a web page isn't technically difficult, virtually anyone with some basic PC skills and a little bit of software can do it.
But to develop a web site, with a cohesive user friendly feel and a consistent corporate look that is easy to navigate and optomised for use on the internet, requires a professional."

TIPS and TRICKS

Letter #1, 20th of July, 2000

Subject: Why isn't my site getting in?

Greetings.

I've submitted my site, A Promotion Guide (located at http://www.apromotionguide.com/ ) to /Computers and Internet/Internet/World Wide Web/Site Announcement and Promotion/ on 27th of April and again on 11th of June. It has not been added and I haven't received any information on why it has been left out.

Could you please check the site and add it if possible? If there's something I have done wrong, or some parts of my site do not comply with your criteria, I'd be happy to correct the problems. But without knowing what's wrong, I'm having a tough time in solving this problem.

Thank you for your time and efforts.

Sincerely,
Lauri Harpf, Webmaster of A Promotion Guide

Subject: Site not getting in: A Promotion Guide

Greetings.

I've submitted my site, A Promotion Guide (located at http://www.apromotionguide.com/ ) to /Computers and Internet/Internet/World Wide Web/Site Announcement and Promotion/ on 27th of April and again on 11th of June. I contacted this E-mail address on 20th of July, but received no reply. I then proceeded to resubmit on 14th of August and had a visitor from Yahoo, who looked at a few pages and left. I haven't heard anything since, so I believe I was rejected.

Could you please check the site and add it if possible? If it doesn't meet the Yahoo criteria, I'd be happy to correct the problems, but I cannot solve the problem without knowing what I'm doing wrong. I hope that you'll have the time to respond to this letter, but if I don't get a reply, I'll keep submitting through the normal route and will not bother you again.

Thank you for your time.

Sincerely,
Lauri Harpf, Webmaster of A Promotion Guide

Subject: Yahoo! Listing

The URL you submitted

<url:http://www.apromotionguide.com/>

has been added to Yahoo! It will appear after our next update, which will probably occur within the next 2-4 days. You can find your entry at that time by looking through the "What's New" listings (located at http://www.yahoo.com/new/) or by doing a keyword search.

Please note: you may see your site listed in our directory before it appears in our searchable database.

It has come to our attention that various organizations have been sending unsolicited messages to new sites that appear in our listings. We're sorry if you're inconvenienced by messages of this kind; Yahoo! does not condone these messages in any way, nor do we divulge to anyone contact information for the sites we list.

Thank you for taking the time to add your site. We rely on users like yourself to make Yahoo! complete and comprehensive. In order to keep Yahoo! accurate, please also let us know of any future changes that might affect your listing.

If you haven't already done so, and you'd like to return the favor and put Yahoo! on your own site, please see http://www.yahoo.com/docs/yahootogo/ for detailed instructions.

Thanks again,

The Yahoo! Team

Yahoo automated response

Subject: Yahoo! Directory Support

Hello,

You are receiving this AUTORESPONSE because you have sent an email to the Directory Support department for:

http://www.yahoo.com

To insure a response to your inquiry please make sure you have followed the guidelines below.

If your request is related to one of our regional directories (e.g. Yahoo! UK & Ireland, Yahoo! Australia & NZ, Yahoo! France etc.), please direct your message to the appropriate regional Directory Support department.

The Directory Support department assists users who are experiencing problems getting their site or change requests reviewed. Due to the volume of requests, we are unable to personally respond to each message. We have included a copy of the guidelines that must be followed before we will open an inquiry. If your request does not meet these guidelines, your query will be ignored.

NEW SUBMISSIONS

Commercial Sites -

Please note, our submission process for commercial sites has changed. All commercial sites must use our fee-based Business Express service. For information about this program, please go to:

http://help.yahoo.com/help/us/bizex/

Non-commercial Sites -

- For information on how to submit a request, please read our detailed instructions at:

http://docs.yahoo.com/info/suggest/

If you are having a problem finding the "Suggest a Site" link, please re-read step number 3 on that page.
- Follow all of the guidelines listed on the submission form.
- Please make at least two attempts (several weeks apart) to submit your site via our online form.
- Do not submit multiple requests in a short period of time for the same URL. We consider this spamming, and your requests will be dropped from consideration.

*Yahoo! wants to be as inclusive as possible, but we cannot guarantee your site will be included in the index, even if you have followed the guidelines listed above.

CHANGE REQUESTS -

To suggest a change to an existing Yahoo! listing, please fill out the online change form located at http://add.yahoo.com/fast/change/. If you are having difficulty getting your listing changed, please make sure that you are following the guidelines on the Yahoo! change form. If you do not follow these guidelines, your request may be ignored. Please keep in mind that Yahoo! makes changes only if a listing is incorrect or if it is deemed necessary by an editor. We will not make changes to allow for keywords in a title or comment. We cannot change a listing to make it show up higher or lower in search results.

SEARCH RESULTS/SITE POSITION REQUESTS -

Please note that site positioning is determined by a complex ranking algorithm based on relevance, and we cannot change the order in which sites appear. For more information on how search results are compiled, please see our search FAQ located at http://help.yahoo.com/help/us/ysearch/ysearch-02.html/.

If you have followed these guidelines, rest assured that your email will be reviewed--there is no need to send multiple copies of the same request. Again, due to the large volume of email we receive, we are not always able to inform you of our decision(s). Please be aware that a real person reviews all requests; therefore, the review process is not an immediate one.

For further information, please visit the Directory Support help pages at:

Thank you for taking the time to read this message.
